Which ministry has overall responsibility?

Ministry of Employment

The Ministry is responsible for residence permits granted on grounds of work or studies, including the Green Card scheme, the Positive List, the Pay Limit scheme and au pair stays. It is also responsible for the integration of refugees and non-EU citizens into the labour market and the education system, including introduction programmes.

The Ministry is in charge of Danish foreign policy.

Diplomatic missions abroad

Applications for admission of non-EU citizens are filed at the missions abroad and forwarded to the Danish Immigration Service.

Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing and Senior Citizens

The Ministry is responsible for integration policy, prevention of radicalisation and integration studies.

Ministry of Justice

The Ministry is responsible for asylum, humanitarian residence, family reunification, residence for EU citizens, Danish citizenship and short-term visas.

The Danish Immigration Service is the state agency implementing the Aliens Act. It is responsible for processing applications for asylum, family reunification, visas, residence and work permits.
