Foreigners who intend to stay in the Republic of Croatia for the purpose of scientific research shall regulate their temporary stay status for the purpose of scientific research.

Duration of validity of permits | A temporary stay permit for the purpose of scientific research shall be granted for the period of one year. |
Further requirements | The application for the approval of the extention of the temporary stay permit shall be submitted at a jurisdictional police administration/station according to the place of residence, no later than 60 days before the expiry of the validity of the existing temporary stay permit. |
Appeals | A police administration/station decision may be appealed within 15 days from the date of the decision. The decision shall be reached by the Review Commission which deals with appeals concerning the procedures applied under the provisions of the Foreigners Act. |

MOBILITY
If you have a permit/visa for research in an EU country, you may conduct research and teach in the Republic of Croatia if you fulfil certain requirements. If the duration of your stay in the Republic of Croatia is shorter than 180 days in a 360-day period, you are subject to short-term mobility rules. If the duration of your stay in the Republic of Croatia is longer than 180 days, you are subject to the rules governing long-term mobility.
Short-term mobility | Procedure A researcher who has concluded a guest agreement in an EEA Member State and has been authorised to stay in that country, may work in the Republic of Croatia on the basis of short-term mobility for a maximum of 180 days in any period of 360 days without approval of a temporary residence for the purpose of research, work and stay permit or certificate of work registration, if he poses no threat to public order, national security and public health. The researcher will inform the competent police administration or police station by the place of residence about his/her intention to reside in the Republic of Croatia when registering for a short stay. Documents required Researchers will enclose a written notice stating the length of stay and provide a residence permit from another EEA Member State as well as a hosting agreement concluded in another EEA Member State. After entering data, the Ministry of Interior's information system prints a certificate of mobility. Applicable fee N/A Allowed number of teaching hours/days A researcher can teach at a research facility that hosts him/her, which can determine the maximum number of hours or days of teaching. Family members A member of a family of a researcher who has a valid residence permit issued in another EEA Member State may be accompanied by a researcher for a maximum of 180 days in any period of 360 days without authorisation of a temporary stay if he/she poses no threat to public order, national security and public health. The family member will inform the competent police administration or police station by the place of residence about his/her intention to reside in the Republic of Croatia when registering for a short stay. When registering for a short stay, the researcher's family member will submit a written notice stating the length of stay and attach a residence permit from another EEA Member State, as well as proof that he/she is a member of the family. Other information Temporary residence for other purposes in order to seek employment or to establish a company or to register a craft may be granted to a researcher who, with the fulfilment of the general conditions (proving the purpose of the temporary stay, has a valid travel document, has the means of supporting himself/herself, health insurance, no prohibition of entry and residence in the Republic of Croatia and poses no danger to public order, national security or public health), provides evidence of the completion of research activities in the Republic of Croatia. |
Long-term mobility | Procedure A researcher who has concluded a guest agreement in another EEA Member State and has been authorised to stay in that country, if he/she wants to work in the Republic of Croatia for the purpose of conducting a research, for more than 180 days on the basis of long-term mobility, has to regulate the temporary stay for research on the basis of long-term mobility and attach a valid residence permit issued by another EEA Member State and a guest agreement concluded with a research organisation in the Republic of Croatia. Approval of a temporary stay for the purpose of long-term mobility research shall be issued with a validity period of up to one year or until the date of expiry of the authorised stay issued by another EEA Member State, if the same is shorter than one year. Documents required Documentation demonstrating the fulfilment of the general conditions for the approval of temporary residence (demonstrates the purpose of the temporary stay, has a valid travel document, has means of supporting himself/herself, health insurance, no prohibition of entry and stay in the Republic of Croatia and does not pose a threat to public order, national security or public health), proof of an authorised stay in another EEA Member State and a guest agreement concluded with a research organisation in the Republic of Croatia. Applicable fee Administrative fee for issuance of temporary residence (HRK 350, approximately EUR 47.3), fee in the amount of HRK 240 (approximately EUR 32.4) for the preparation of biometric residence permit and administrative fee of HRK 70 (approximately EUR 9.5) for the production of biometric residence permit. Allowed number of teaching hours/days A researcher can teach at a research facility that hosts him/her, which can determine the maximum number of hours or days of teaching. Family Members A member of a family of a researcher who has a valid residence permit issued in another EEA Member State may regulate temporary residence for the purpose of family reunification for long-term mobility if he/she demonstrates evidence that he/she has been staying with a researcher in another EEA member State.
