Student
To enter and reside in Cyprus as a student, you must be enrolled in:
- a recognised institution of higher education; or
- a public or private institute or organisation;
for the purpose of receiving:
- a diploma;
- a postgraduate diploma;
- a doctorate diploma; or
- another kind of diploma of higher education.
You must obtain a visa or an entry-permit before you come to Cyprus.
You must obtain a temporary residence permit after you arrive in Cyprus.
Pupil
To enter and reside in Cyprus as a pupil you must:
- Be enrolled in a recognised pupil exchange programme in an accredited/recognised school;
- Be between 12-19 years old, unless the exchange program is offered to pupils older than 19 years old.
You must obtain a visa or an entry-permit before you come to Cyprus.
You must obtain a temporary residence permit after you arrive in Cyprus.

Student | Students have the right to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week under certain conditions, in specific professions in domestic activities, waste management, restaurants, recreation centres, cleaning services, wholesale trade-repairs, health/social care, agriculture, animal husbandry, fishery, manufacturing and food delivery. Their employment contract must be certified by the Department of Labour. |

If you have a permit/visa for studies in an EU country and are covered by an EU or multilateral programme or an agreement between universities, you may carry out part of your studies and work (in addition to your studies) in the Republic of Cyprus if you fulfil certain requirements. You may reside and study in the Republic of Cyprus for up to 360 days.
If you are not covered by a programme or agreement, you can apply for a new permit/visa in the Republic of Cyprus.
Procedure
Notification: The HEI in the first EU country notifies the authorities of the first EU country and the authorities of Cyprus (Civil Registry and Migration Department) about the intention of the students to carry out part of the studies and work (in addition to the studies) in Cyprus.
Documents required
Valid passport, for at least two years or for the mobility period,
valid residence permit in the first EU country,
proof that the student carries out part of the studies in Cyprus within an EU or multilateral programme that includes mobility measures or an agreement between universities,
proof that the student has been accepted by a HEI in Cyprus,
the duration and the dates of the mobility period, if not stated above,
health insurance,
sufficient financial sources of the student,
where applicable, proof that the student has paid the registration fees of the HEI in Cyprus.

Allowed number of working hours/days
20 hours per week. The employment contract must be certified by the Department of Labour.
Other information
Students, who exercised mobility in Cyprus, are allowed to apply after their studies for a permit for job-searching/entrepreneurship, and this one year after the completion of their studies, provided that they have completed a master or PhD course.
