To carry out seasonal work in the agriculture and forestry sector for up to 90 days in a calendar year, you must obtain a permit for seasonal work. Seasonal work shall be inherently linked to a season characterised by a significant labour demand increase in the activity concerned.

To carry out seasonal work longer than 90 days in a calendar year, you must obtain a single residence permit for seasonal work longer than 90 days (hereinafter: single permit for seasonal work).
Where and how to apply | An application to obtain a single permit for seasonal work may be submitted by you or your employer. Application submitted by you You must apply for a first single permit for seasonal work at a diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia abroad. Application submitted by the employer Alternatively, your employer may apply for a first single permit at a diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia abroad or at the administrative unit in the area where the employer is established or where the activity is performed in the Republic of Slovenia. Application form An application for the issue or renewal of a single permit for seasonal work shall be made using the form no. 10/1 set out in Annex 1 of the Rules on issuing residence permits, the method of capturing fingerprints and the modalities of the termination of the residence permit. The application form is also available at a diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia abroad or at the administrative units in Slovenia. Fees The administrative fee for issuing a first single residence and work permit is 102 EUR, if the application is lodged at a diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia abroad. The administrative fee for issuing a single residence and work permit is 70 EUR, if the application is lodged at the administrative unit in the Republic of Slovenia. The price of the residence permit card is 12 EUR. |

Further requirements | A third-country national with a valid temporary residence permit or long-stay visa who does not reside with an accommodation provider or host shall register temporary residence at the address where he or she temporarily resides with the administrative unit within eight days of the day of taking up temporary accommodation, while a third-country national who already resides at the address and obtains a temporary residence permit or long-stay visa after taking accommodation at this address shall register within eight days of his/her service. |
Duration of validity of permits | A single permit for seasonal work longer than 90 days shall be issued for the period of the employment or work contract with the same employer or contractor and may be extended, while the total duration of seasonal work must not exceed six months or, in exceptional cases determined in the Act governing the employment and work of foreigners, seven months in a calendar year. |
Conditions for renewal | In the case of employment or work with another employer or contractor, a single permit for seasonal work longer than 90 days may be extended under the same conditions as those applicable to its issuance for the period of the employment or work contract, while the total duration of seasonal work must not exceed six months or, in exceptional cases determined in the Act governing the employment and work of foreigners, seven months in a calendar year. You must apply for the extension of a permit with the competent authority in the Republic of Slovenia prior to the expiry of the permit. |
Appeals | Decisions of administrative units may be challenged before the Administrative Court. |

Change of employment | Consent from the Employment Service to the issuance of the single permit for work is tied to a specific employer or contractor. This means that you cannot change job within the same employer, change employer, or take up employment with two or more employers unless you apply for written approval of the administrative unit, which shall issue written approval in the form of a decision after receiving consent from the Employment Service in accordance with the Act governing the employment and work of foreigners. In-country application for issuance of written approval is possible. Change of status | If you wish to change status and reside in Slovenia for a reason other than seasonal work, you may apply for a further temporary residence permit. This must be done before the expiry of the original temporary residence permit. In-country applications are possible. |
Family members | A third-country national residing in the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of a temporary residence permit for the purpose of seasonal work cannot be granted the right to the family reunification. |
Long-term residence | The period of your residence in the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of a temporary residence permit for seasonal work does not count in the period for issuing a permanent residence permit. |
